Verdandi is a Swedish workers’ organization striving for social justice and a society free from alcohol-related injuries.

Verdandi was created in 1896 as a protest movement against social injustice and bad conditions in society as well as against the prevalent attitude which held the individual solely responsible for the alcohol abuse, rather than circumstances such as poverty, insecurity and other inhuman conditions. From the very beginning, Verdandi - as an independent organization in the workers’ movement - has aimed to improving people’s social and financial conditions through the promotion of measures such as housing, education, eight-hour working days, universal suffrage, etc.

Today’s aim is to analyze the development of society through the experiences and voices of those who are not heard otherwise. People of all ages, in all parts of the country, may participate in Verdandi’s activities.


Activities

Verdandi’s activities are quite different from place to place since they are based on local needs. According to Verdandi, without a local angle, the organization would soon lose touch with reality as well as losing credibility and members.
